Most printers currently produced have multiple
methods of connecting to computer systems. Some of these methods include a USB
data cable and a LAN cable. LAN
is an Ethernet-based cable connection that is usually used for networks and
Internet connections. However, it is also possible to stream the printer
request information from the connected computer to the printer if you want to
keep the USB ports open or if you want to hook up the printer to a local
network so multiple computers have access to the printer.
Instructions
1 Insert the USB data cable into the USB port on the back of the printer.
2 Plug the other end of the USB cable into a USB port on the computer system.
3 Attach the LAN cable (Ethernet cable) into the LAN connection port on the rear of the printer. Make sure the printer has this connection. If there is no LAN cable connection you are unable to hook up the printer through this method.
4 Connect the opposite end of the LAN cable into either a network LAN port on the computer, or an "In" connection on the network hub you have multiple computers connected to.
